He's not sure what it is that convinces him, but midway through the month, McCoy wakes up with Jim at his side breathing heavily and he thinks to himself: What the hell am I doing running around like a stressed idiot? It's the thought in mind as he takes hold of a towel, a bag with food, sunscreen, and other paraphernalia, and heads down to the little stretch of beach that's only a ten minute walk from their home. Sometimes, he forgets how nice it is to enjoy the small things. It's what he's doing now, lying on his back with sunglasses blocking out the UV rays.
So maybe Jim still doesn't remember and maybe he's got a full battery of patients and amnesia cases in his friends to worry about. All that will still be there in an hour. Right now? Right now, he just wants to relax.

He should be angry. He should feel violated, because he has been, abused, because that's true, too. But Jim feels quiet in a way he's not used to. Quiet in a way he's come to associate with Bones. He should be angry, and somewhere beneath it all he is, but now, more than anything, Jim is grateful. He's lost everything he's ever held dear at least once in life, but this time, he got it back again.
The house is empty, but after a quick survey of missing items, Jim slides into a pair of trunks and walks, barefoot, over the paths most likely to lead to Bones. He finds him laid out in a patch of shade, skin still damp and eyes closed, long body loose and relaxed and so familiar Jim could cry.
Once upon an island, Jim had married a stranger.
Looking at Bones now, Jim knows he never could, never would want anyone other than the man in front of him. He pads forward, dropping onto a dry edge of the towel. "Hey."

"I remember. All of it. We were fighting the night before I lost my memories. Because of Bucky Barnes."

"We should talk," he agrees. "Where do you want to start?"

Jim stops short of saying I can't see me marrying anyone but you, but the silence likely says it for him. "Feels wrong. You being there, as the best man."

After everything that Jim's been through, there's no other option, as far as he's concerned. "You're my number one priority."

He sighs and reclines back onto the towel, peering over at Jim. "Guess there was a part of me that was just grateful you'd matured enough to settle down."
